Message from the Chairman
Welcome to the International Communication Foundation website.
The ICF is a nonprofit cultural foundation established in 1982 by YBM, the leader in Korea’s English education industry, in an effort to globalize Korean literature and promote international communication and exchange. We strive to promote Korean authors and literary works abroad and introduce Korean literature and culture to the world.
Our mission for over thirty years is to globalize Korean culture through the training of translators of Korean literature. In order to achieve this, we have established funds and launched professorships in Korean literature at Harvard University, University of British Columbia, and University of Oxford, which in turn has enabled these institutions to conduct research and lectures on Korean literature. We have furthermore supported select international and Korean graduate students overseas majoring in Korean Literature, English Literature, Comparative Literature, and Creation Writing with fellowships since 1996.
In addition, we have supported the publication of AZALEA by the Korean Institute at Harvard University since 2007.
AZALEA, which is the first English journal on Korean literature and culture, has been published annually since then. It is used as course material for Korean literature courses at several international universities. The journal features translated works of topical Korean contemporary literature.
We are exploring new ways to put Korean literature on the global zeitgeist with the help of proposals from researchers made through literary symposiums and forums. We hope to serve as a bridge between global readers and Korean authors and to help bring a deeper understanding of Korea to the world. Thank you for your continued interest and support.
